NIGERIAN TEENS WIN INTERNATIONAL AWARD FOR THEIR WASTE DISPOSAL MOBILE APP

Five brilliant girls from Nigeria  have emerged winners of the 2015 Technovation World Challenge pitch held in San Francisco, United States of America. They emerged victorious for developing a community waste disposal app aimed at tackling the waste disposal challenge in Nigeria.

The girls; Praise David-Oku, Nmesoma Ogbonna, Charlotte Takem, Sonam Kumar and Grace Akpoiroro who are members of Team Charis, pitched their app 'Discardious' to beat teams from 64 other countries.  Team Charis used the MIT inventor platform to create the app on Android phones.

Martha Alade, founder of WITIN and coordinator of the programme in Nigeria informed that this years' team was exceptional and has done the country proud.

Grace Ihejiamaizu, the founder of i-Kapture Networks and an International Exchange Alumni who mentored the girls disclosed that the team encountered quite a number of challenges but was determined to succeed.

This is the first time aNigerian team would come tops globally in the technovation competition. They went home with the $10,000 cash prize.
